What we fund
CCW has four grant categories, outlined
below, that reflect the broad scope of our work.
Wildlife, Geology and Landscape
The overall objective for the grant is to promote and stimulate
positive action for wildlife, geology and landscape. Our support
under this category is wide and varied, and we try to enable
project delivery across all taxonomic groups, as well as
geo-diversity action. Our priorities for ‘Landscape’ relate to the
need to integrate our existing spatial, landscape scale information
with policy and decision making processes at a National, Regional
and Local level.
Providing and Promoting Access, Recreation and their
Benefits
The aim of the grant is to increase participation in outdoor
recreation through connecting the supply of opportunities to the
demand for them, and so best meet local user / stakeholder needs
for recreation and access. Health benefits and the diversification
of users of the countryside will be strong considerations as we
prioritise the projects.
Building Capacity in Other Organisations
The "Building Capacity" grant category supports programmes of
work across a wide range of policy areas. CCW will prioritise those
networks or partnerships that assist CCW to engage with national
policy frameworks and assist with priority setting in line with our
remit to manage Wales’ natural heritage, landscape, biodiversity
and enjoyment of the countryside. Where local partnerships exist
delivering the above, these would have to demonstrate a wider
applicability across Wales. Where duplication or overlap occurs,
CCW will seek to bring those areas together under one partnership,
where practicable.
Promoting Understanding and Awareness
Together with our patrners, we want to increase the level of
awareness of environmental issues amongst all sectors of the
population - helping to create a culture of sustainable living and
respect for the environment across Wales, as well as building
environmental skills.
In addition, this year CCW’s ambition is to fund more projects
that support out of classroom learning in the natural environment.
These projects should create enjoyable, high quality learning and
recreational experiences for children and young people within the
formal education sector. we have earmarked £150,000 for these
projects exclusively.
