About CCW

Grants

CCW distributes over £5 million in grant aid each year.  Working through partnerships with local authorities, environmental organisations and voluntary bodies, we  offer grants to encourage and deliver projects that benefit both people and wildlife.

The grants bidding window is now closed.

For projects seeking grant contribution of between £500 and £5000, please contact one of our Regional Countryside Officers to discuss the nature of your project and its suitability for funding. Regional Countryside Officers can be contacted through our enquiry line.

If you are unsuccessful in obtaining funding from CCW, our funding newsletter may help you to find alternative sources of funding.

You can download it from our 'Resources' below.

The sorts of projects we fund include:

  • Action for the natural environment on land or sea; habitats and species, geology and landscapes.
  • Connecting people with nature, particularly those in urban environments and people suffering disadvantage in any form.
  • Creating and enhancing links and routes to and within the countryside and areas of natural green-space, and especially to the coast.
  • Promoting new opportunities for people to take part in outdoor activities on their own initiative
  • Raising awareness of environmental issues and the impacts of human activity on sensitive areas, to educate people and to encourage behavioural changes.
  • Putting organisations in touch through networks to share good practice and to deliver environmental benefits more effectively.
  • Establishing local record centres and making environmental information more easily accessible.
  • Flagship projects to demonstrate how we can live more sustainably.

In these pages of the website you can find out more about what our grant aid is for and how to apply for our funding, as well as seeing who has received funding from us in the past and what they have used the money to do.

Eligibility

CCW welcomes expressions of interest from third sector organisations and charities, with a constitution that allows fund-raising for non-profit purposes. However, CCW cannot accept project ideas from individuals or profit-making companies.

It is hoped that organisations’ ideas will soon be posted on the CCW website, allowing them to see whether similar projects are taking place in the area, and whether there are opportunities to deliver projects jointly.

We recommend that you discuss project ideas with CCW staff so that they can help to advise you on their suitability.

Further details about grant opportunities for April 2009 onwards will appear here in due course.

Please note – the submission of an ‘expression of interest’ is not a formal grant application. Successful projects will still need to formally apply using our Grant Application form when notified to do so.
