About CCW

The tale of two languages…

In CCW we work in two languages – Welsh and English. Our staff can speak and write Welsh to varying levels but as a basic courtesy to our Welsh speaking customers we expect all our staff to pronounce place names correctly and use basic greetings and response, such as Bore Da, ‘Pnawn Da, Diolch etc.

We put a lot of emphasis on being able to use the language of your choice, whether as a customer or a staff member. So for our customers we offer a bilingual service and will always respond to you in Welsh or English as you prefer. We carry out a lot of our work in the rural areas of Wales where Welsh is spoken by the majority of people and so it’s important that we can communicate in Welsh.

As regards our own staff we enable them to use their preferred language in their day to day work as far as possible. We provide a range of training in both speaking and writing Welsh and we encourage staff who are learning Welsh to use it as much as possible so that they become more comfortable and confident with it. We have an internal bilingual policy which actively promotes the use of both Welsh and English in the workplace and gives staff guidance on how to do this in practice.

We are committed to promoting and preserving the Welsh language as a vital part of our Welsh heritage. This is reflected in our Welsh Language Scheme (required by the Welsh Language Act) which sets out our bilingual service on this website.
