Outdoor Activities

Open-air recreation offers an ideal way to get closer to Mother Nature – whilst being exhilarating for body and soul. Wales has some of the best, and most easily accessible natural features in Britain - and people have been exploring them for generations. Great mountaineers have carved their skills on these rugged peaks – and today downhill mountain bikers negotiate the jagged crags. Welsh outdoors sport is as extreme as it comes…

  • Air based activities include paragliding, hang gliding and kite flying.
  • Activities on land include climbing, mountain biking, horse riding and wildlife watching.
  • Water based activities include canoeing, sailing, diving, wind surfing and fishing.

At CCW we work to balance increasing access to the joys of participating in outdoor activities with the need to conserve our landscape and wildlife for the future.

Be prepared

Each activity has unique characteristics – from the type of participants to the habitats in which they take place.

Whatever activity you are undertaking, you should always consider:

  • The risk to yourself and others
  • The benefits to community, health and well-being
  • The effect on the environment

By using the natural environment responsibly, we improve our own quality of life and also help protect our natural heritage for future generations.
