What can I see on the map?

The countryside access map is a good place to start if you want to go walking in Wales.

We have walks to suit everyone no matter whether you are visiting North Wales, Mid Wales or South Wales and you can be sure that if you pick one of our walks not only can you find out if it's suitable for you and your family, but also that it should be maintained to a high standard. We have many countryside partners who provide us with their best routes and places to visit to help you enjoy your visit to the countryside.

If you have any problems when out walking our routes, please let us know and we will pass your comments on to the right person.

Not everyone wants to follow a promoted route, so if you prefer to stride out on a Public Right of Way or take advantage of the freedom of Access land, just ‘zoom’ into our colour map and find where you can go. For those of you more interested in walking on Open Access land, sometimes known as 'the right to roam' and shaded in yellow on our maps, please remember to read the information we provide (shaded red, pink or hatched red) about any restriction or exclusion that might be in place on your visit. Please also remember to comply with any signage that you come across.

At certain times of the year you need to be more aware that there is a potential risk of fire in the countryside, to help you with this, we have a Fire Risk Indicator that shows levels 1 (With very low risk) to 5 (exceptional risk). A scoring of five would reflect extremely dry weather conditions or dramatic changes in the condition of the land.

If you are having difficulty using our maps go to the ‘How to use the map’ page for fully interactive help.

The OS Explorer mapping is used for our map base. Copies of these maps showing CROW access land can also be purchased from the Ordnance Survey.
