Reptiles & amphibians

Wales is home to 5 reptile species and 6 amphibian species. Adders, frogs, the shy, elusive sand lizard... CCW introduces these fascinating creatures.

What reptiles and amphibians live in Wales?

The common frog first springs to mind – one of the most obvious and widespread animals in Wales.

But Wales is also home to the natterjack toad and the sand lizard - two of the shyest and rarest of animals.

Between the two extremes are species well known by some people, but never encountered by others.
